As we travel through the ages of our lives, each of us will experience gains and losses, failures and successes. We will all know what it feels like to love and to be loved. We will all be exposed to death and the loss or death of a dear, loved one. With the help of a good support group, we can make it through dealing with grief. Unfortunately, when something like this happens, people tend to isolate themselves and avoid the painful process of dealing with it. When experiencing a death or a loss, it is normal to feel emotions. Our emotions make life worth living. The healthiest thing to do is to process the grief by gradually living through each stage of emotion necessary to release the grief and move forward with your life.

This is not an easy task, since many of us are not very good with change and making new habits to begin with. It is unbelievable to lose a loved one. How can anything be resolved if it is too horrible to comprehend in the first place! Yet, coping with grief is critical. If the grief remains unresolved it will have serious consequences and stop the healing process. Your body's energy flow will begin to block and it will be difficult to move forward. This is the stuck feeling many people refer to. It could lead to a deep long lasting depression if you or a loved one are not paying attention to these signs.

Some professionals have agreed that there are common stages when dealing with grief: shock, denial, bargaining, panic, guilt, anger, depression and acceptance. Many do not get through all the stages and stay stuck in one of them. For some, coping with grief is too difficult and they would rather shut off all feelings rather than continue to experience the intense grief yet another day. This is a sensitive time and some begin to over use drugs or alcohol in order to numb all feelings. If you know of anyone living with grief right now, be attentive to these signs and by all means, call in a professional to help them get back on the right track, if necessary.

When dealing with grief, it is an emotional release, some times a feeling of panic, it is best to resume your old projects or make new ones. Force yourself to begin, if you must. Start to take better care of yourself. Exercise and eat healthy foods. Make healthy choices and meet new friends. When coping with grief, you will feel intense sorrow, the great unhappiness that you didn't want to feel in the first place. It is perfectly okay to want to be alone some times and sort through your feelings. You should return to being social and resume your activities after a while. Find a support group or consult a counsellor. Keep it going until you have found something good that will work for you! There are many agencies offering bereavement support.
