It's common for people as they get older to begin planning ahead and thinking about what they may want from a funeral. Funeral plans are a highly convenient way to do this, as they allow you to plan ahead, spread the costs of a funeral service and allow you to remove any burden from the ones you love which may have been left to them if you were to pass away unexpectedly.
Some worry that they cannot take out a funeral plan, as they believe that they would need to cover the cost of it in its entirety, which understandably, not many people can afford to do. This is a common case of why people's loved ones are often left to pay out for the funeral and everything that goes with it.

Others have concerns with how little choice there is out there when it comes to funeral plans. Most funeral plans have an average cost which differs very little, whoever is the provider. This makes it very difficult to make a decision about who to go with, as its guaranteed that it will cost a fair bit, whichever funeral company you end up choosing.
There are a couple of ways however which can help lower the costs of pre-paying for a funeral:
One is to spread the costs over a set period of time. You can do this in accordance to how much you can afford to spare every month for example. The amount of time you choose to pay off this balance can also vary, depending on how much you want to pay. Another good thing about this is that some policies will say that you need to pay for as long as you are alive, but will then honour the rest of the sum when the policy-holder eventually dies, so if the balance hasn't been completely paid off, the burden won't be left with the family.

Another way you can save money is by removing elements or services that a set plan incorporates that you feel aren't necessarily needed. For example, they may give you one choice or car to carry the coffin to the church, but you could choose a slightly cheaper car for a lower price if you feel that the choice of vehicle is one of the least important aspects of the funeral service.

It is of course all personal preference, but there are ways to getting the funeral you want at a price you can afford.
